i agree about the music - its catchy but it gets a bit old and it kind of ends weird then just starts again. There are unit specific tracks and it sounds like they are having issues getting it all to synch right, but the "undeliner" really isn't an underliner - its more of a repetitive theme song with the same lyrics that get sung over and over. Previoious parades seem to have more of a complete "song" that pays through the entire parade.

Just like Soundsational, each unit has its own complete loop. Starts with theme song (When Can I See You Again), goes into Baroque Hoedown, with some of the movie music mixed in along the way. In the middle of the loop are the bigger chunks of the movie music. They then go back to the theme song to end the loop. They're about 2 and a half minutes long (just like Soundsational).

Was just about to say the same thing.

A bit off topic, but how are crowds now for PTN/Disneyland Forever? I'm going to the parks on Sunday and was wondering what would be the best strategy to catch the two. How early should I claim a spot for the 8:50 showing on Main Street?

Yesterday the bulk of Main Street was staked out by 5:15pm. Town Square was not, but it had started. Keep in mind Soundsational had only just finished.

You should try for the 11pm PTN. It will save you a ton of time.

I do not know if I am the only one that feels this way but I hate the soundtrack. unlike the other parades, the music just repeats and repeats. One fix they could d is add float specific songs.

There are float-specific overmelodies, but I agree that the underliner isn't so great.
It seems like it's going to feel really dated in just a few years.

I absolutely HATE the soundtrack. I am glad I'm not alone. I'm cool with repetitive music, but this sucks. While I have not yet seen it in person, the music also gives me a headache. It's not timeless or catchy the way the original MSEP was. Nor is it anywhere near as grand and sweeping like the brilliant SpectroMagic music. This is generic, watered-down crappy late 2010's pop music, with Baroque Hoedown jammed in, because ya know, WE GOTTA HAVE BAROQUE HOEDOWN, IT'S DISNEY. :bored:

This soundtrack is stuck in a certain time period that will be obsolete in a few years. Owl City? Seriously? They couldn't get someone in-house to do this? A la Fantasmic/SpectroMagic? Ugh. If you're going to use pre-existing music for a parade, use something that's so unique that it will be remembered forever, like the original MSEP.

A couple of questions. Why does the new entertainment have to be like their predecessors? How do you know someone or some people out there aren't going to remember the soundtrack forever? This is a new generation. Some of these people have probably never heard of MSEP. For them, Paint the Night will be the night parade they will talk about years and years from now, when they become adults. Every generation has their own thing. MSEP's time has passed.

The problem I have with the Paint the Night soundtrack—I don't hate it—but I have the feeling it's going to go down in history among the likes of the Parade of Dreams theme/Brother Bear song rather than that of the Baroque Hoedown, Spectro Waltz. Even Soundsational, which I consider a fortunate bright spot among a recent spate of bland, generic Disney pop anthems (Celebrate the Magic included), has a bit more going for it than "When Will/Can I/We See/Do You/This Again," IMO. It's certainly not enough for me to hate the parade. In fact, I think it's top notch. But I'm not completely in love with the music.

Buncha grown adults (I'm assuming) complaining about parade music, ha! You realize this stuff is for the kiddos, ya? Mega bonus points to Disney if we enjoy these things at all at this stage in our lives. What seems obnoxious, bland, poppy, and all the other adjectives you can think of is what resonates with these kids today for better or for worse. When they're our age they will probably look back at it with the fondness we had for a certain goofy synthy soundtrack that would seem antiquated to anyone hearing it for the first time today.

Light Magic wasn't bad either, as long as you can tolerate all the Riverdance.

See, I typically find the Disney parade music super ultra mega corny and annoying in every way (see: that dreck posted above). But with Paint the Night, the simplicity of the hook is like perfect for Disneyland. It's exactly how I feel whenever I go there.

I finally saw this parade and I love it. The music is great and catchy. There are songs for each individual float, but the overall song is really fun too. I caught the 11 pm parade, so the crowds weren't so bad. I'll go again this weekend.

I think it works.....for now. I agree that this one has a shelf life though and that is, I feel, one of the flaws of disney now they are forever trying to feel in the moment and now and it just comes off as tragically hip and thinly veiled crash commercialism. I had forgotten until all this discussion stirred up the urge to look back how stirring and richly orchestrated spectro magic was. MSEP was a product of its time and groundbreaking yet the 70s sound was past it's prime and needed to be replaced. I originally liked ptn when it debuted in hong kong but I'm already over it before I even see it at disneyland. I think that's what some are saying. Will it really LAST for years or (my fear) just last for years. You know the difference.

New entertainment does not have to imitate its predecessors, not at all! In fact, I think this parade is doing that too much alone by shoe-horning Baroque Hoedown into the soundtrack! Totally unnecessary.

Do I think Paint the Night will be beloved by this new generation of kids, and remembered forever the way the MSEP is/was? Maybe, you never know! I hope kids love it. I hope I love it when I see it. But do I think it's BETTER than the MSEP? Well, visually, perhaps it's technologically superior, you can't deny that. But musically? I don't think so. I think they could have done better. That's not say some kid isn't going to walk away singing "When can we do this again" they way we walked out singing "dun dadada da" A-la Baroque Hoedown. But personally, I can't stand this music. I would have preferred something that sounds less like what you'd hear on a generic tween pop radio station, and more like something unique to Disneyland that you can't hear anywhere else. THAT'S the element from nearly every attraction I've ever liked that this parade is missing. Think of the music from almost anything great: MSEP, Wishes, Fantasy In the Sky, the current version of IllumiNations, Fantasmic, Haunted Mansion, Small World, Pirates, SpectroMagic and yes, even Light Magic all have that element of originality & "uniqueness" in the music that this parade is missing.

That's exactly what makes Paint the Night's music unique. It takes on a pop sound, unlike the rest of Disneyland's nighttime entertainment music, which all sounds exactly the same.

The music may be pop, but listen to the lyrics. It's still something you'd hear at a Disney park and not on the radio. Name me a contemporary song with lyrics similar to When Can We Do This Again.
