A Disney Park in... WISCONSIN?

I'd like to see them plan a Marvel park just west of the Mississippi (NOLA?), as close to Orlando as they can get, just to be a thorn in Universals side.

I didn't know you were from Kenosha! So am I...near the lake off highway 50! KTown represent!!! Too sad they closed the drive in theater forever :(

@stevehousse - we're by Indian Trail/Mahone schools/YMCA. It truly is a small world after all! Yes, I'm very sad about the drive in. I think McHenry is the closest one now.

PS: if you have today's Kenosha Sunday paper that features the "Disney at Dairyland editorial," open to the Voice of the People/Opinion page. I have a letter in there regarding the school board race.

I read the article. It actually has me rethink for the Wisconsin Disneyland imagineering idea that I'm working on off and on. The additional 83 acres does change what I have in mind.

I do have a problem with the article mentioning Marvel. All can be done with Marvel Right now is big hero 6 and Guardians of the Galaxy.

The article didn't do their homework on the Marvel contract for the odds of ironing out the contract for Wisconsin. The contract prevents Marvel Characters that are part the Avenger Family inside a Disney theme park East of the Mississippi River from doing meet and greets and rides.

I double checked that article. Even without rides, it is questionable in terms of hotels or a Marvel Museum.

The article addresses the Marvel contract...

"Marvel character appearances at “theme parks” east of the Mississippi River get a little tricky because of an agreement between Marvel and Universal Studios’ parent company when Islands of Adventure was built. That is why the three-acre traveling “Marvel Experience” only has appeared west of the Mississippi. But Dallas is closer to Orlando than Kenosha, so I’m certain renegotiating the deal could result in a mutually beneficial arrangement."

I think they also had the same issue with the Former Marvel Superheroes Adventure City in Canada since it was on the Eastern side...

They even had a Spiderman ride...An odd one at that.. Think IoA Spiderman meets Buzz Lightyear...

I live in Kenosha, WI. It's smack in the middle of the Milwaukee/Chicago Interstate 94 (I94) corridor - giant suburbs are located between and around these cities - pretty much a giant city of "Chiwaukee."

Chicago is 1 hour south, Milwaukee is 1/2 hour north, Minneapolis is 6 hours northwest, Indianapolis 4-5 hours southeast.

In Kenosha we have a defunct greyhound racetrack that is an eyesore sitting on tons of prime acreage along I94.

Our governor but the kabosh (forever) on developing the site for a Hard Rock Casino & Entertainment Complex.

Now community stakeholders are looking at "what's next" for the site.

I opened to the editorial page of KNews to read "Disney at Dairyland?" and immediately laughed at the headline.

I'm thought "Wisconsin? Disney park?" "That is crazy - this IS the frozen tundra - people want to escape this agood-forsaken frozen place!"

But... Then I began to read... This guy makes some very good points. I'm not holding my breath because I realize it's a pipe dream, but I'd love to see this happen in my community. It's a great location, we have people who need jobs and would jump at the chance to work for Disney, plus for DCP, we have 3 colleges/universities in our town alone and too many to count in our region.

Hey, Disney could build a huge indoor type of theme park with resorts attached to them. That way they can control the weather climate and really hit it out of the park. Can you think of the cool theming that Disney can create with an indoor park? Laser shows, the lighting can change with the music and so on. Untapped part of the USA

Houston would be a better fit, as both NOLA and Baton are on the East bank side of the river.

Although with the way the river curves upwards, NOLA's East Bank is actually on the West.....

Just before DisneyQuest closed, we were in college and I surprised my then boyfriend (now hubz) with an overnight away in downtown Chicago - we ate at ESPN Zone (also now closed) and then went to Disney Quest. Half of the large simulators were not working, then their main system for exchanging tickets or tokens (I can't remember which) broke down. We couldn't do anything at that point. It was a cluster----. The little we were able to play before the massive technical breakdown, wasn't that great. It was a glorified arcade with some VR sprinkled in.

I'm not thinking they would do something like this again. If they were to do an indoor park, it would be cool to see an "enclosed main street" with rides that can be housed/run all year... pirates, small world, haunted mansion and the like. NOT a glorified VR arcade.[/QUOTE]

There was Jay Rasulo's dream of the urban entertainment centers that would have combined some small attractions, retail and dining into a Disney hotel complex.

I'm guessing it would look a little something like this:

I think it would be pretty :p Although the US does not need another Disney Resort. One in South America and one in Dubai maybe but that should be it and Disney should then put all their effort in making each existing resort the best they could possibly be.

I remember reading about them building in Texas. I thought it was a cool idea. As it started to break down, and the recent lawsuits in Texas have shown...it doesn't seem disney is actively seeking another city in the continental United States. That said, the pictures of snow on thunder mountain with the boat going past is gorgeous. Be a cool idea...but, I'm too close to sunny Orlando to go anywhere else.

Aint.
Gonna.
Happen.

Your weather is not conducive to year round operations and after Disney's last domestic fiasco right down the street, I realy cant see that they would ever invest stateside again. Moreover..... they cant take care of the toys they have now, why should they get more?
