Yep, I'm going there. Admittedly, I have been drinking. But the Indiana Jones Adventure talk and expected bashing of CTX got me to thinking...and drinking.
I kinda prefer CTX. Hear me out.
I feel that Indy is by far the most overrated Disney attraction I have ever experienced. I've only heard praise. True, I enjoy it. I think the queue is a lot of fun. I dig on that main Temple of Doom-esque chamber with the bridge. Aside from that...meh?
It's the newest and perhaps most celebrated E Ticket at Disneyland (come on, Star Tours 2 doesn't really count, that was a refit and it's just screens), yet the effects are all corny. Skeletons on sticks popping out of the wall, obvious projections of bugs on the walls (with seemingly unrelated inexplicable air blasts straight out of a Universal attraction), a silly Jafar snake that barely moves, completely un-themed corridors after the skull room and that awful Mr. Toad's Wild Ride-esque dart room. It was a huge letdown. I remember the Disney PR pimping how it was never the same ride twice. The only difference is the door at the beginning, and that's constantly broken. Well, I guess broken effects also make it different.
Indy doesn't sound like Indy and in fact, seems to be completely out of character, dangling above the transport and asking you to let him in. What was that? He doesn't even shoot anyone. Okay, I'll excuse that last part.
CTX...yes, everything is broken these days. But is it that different than the situation with Indy? In its heyday, CTX was pretty awesome. Giant dinos in your face, meteors crashing all around, Dr. Seeker on the radio yelling "they're not gonna make it!", time travel tunnels that look like you're inside of the toaster, etc. Incredibly fun! I know that everyone prefers Indiana Jones, but for Pete's sake, CTX was a good ride in its day! Dr. Seeker, while only in there briefly, is one of the coolest and most oddly endearing characters in a Disney attraction, hijacking your time travel tour for his own insane purpose of bringing a dino back. Maybe it's my man crush on Seeker that makes me prefer CTX! "I tagged him with a locator during an "unauthorized" field trip. Otherwise, I'd be traveling with you." Seeker > IJA version of Indy
