I'm a Darwinist do dumb stuff get eliminated from the gene pool. Dumb stuff includes not watching your kids in potentially hazardous locations like giant tubs of chlorinated dihydrogen monoxide.
It also includes jogging on the road with music blasting in your ears so you can't hear the car which is about to run you over. Americans suck at situational awareness.

A fence is a logical and reasonable precaution but one would think that Disney could come up with something nicer looking than the Home Store vinyl 'value' fencing they are using. The green cyclone fence used around the tennis courts is more effective and less visually obtrusive and you can put an anti-climb section at the top.
IF Disney wanted to really eliminate the liability they would immediately close all pools and fill in holes and replace with sun lounges.

When Disney puts bungalows as the new view from the beach and many long houses, that is butchering. I have used that portion of the beach over the holidays to view the fireworks so another minus. The lobby fountain is in no way equivalent in imagineering. Yes the old one had issues, doesn't mean Disney could not build a better water feature, yet they chose a puny little fountain that they can roll in with a forklift. Nobody will be sitting and relaxing around that fountain. The kids loved the volcano pool, a unique feature for the Poly. Unique is going by the wayside during this refurbishment.

Bet Disney Imagineers would love to create a new amazing fountain. Unfortunately Disney is going in this direction....

An appropriately themed fence would have been wrought iron or a reasonable facsimile and it would have been far less visually obtrusive.

Precisely - I guess all these hotels which have room rates which are a third of the Poly and used by business travelers are all not for profit operations.

That was a temporary fence that was installed due to fabrication delays with the intended fence so that the pool could reopen. It was shortly after replaced by a custom metal fence.A picture from this very board

They look better than the original - but still not what I would expect from Disney of yore.
Something like the above but in white would have fit the GF's theme a lot better

So....What will the new Poly pool be themed as? A dwarf volcano? Molten lava bubbling up from below creating a giant hot tub? Or boring rectangle? Anybody know?

My bet is on boring rectangular no deeper than 4 ft. But it will be a MAGICAL rectangle because it's Disney...
Breaking News. Budget cuts reduce rectangular pool to a triangle as one side was cut to reduce costs.

Pool looks fine, I'll miss the cabanas and am grateful we got to experience them many times in the past. I still don't understand why they had to change the look of the volcano.
