Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

118 pages of essentially the same comment. This thread will be longer than Save the Adventurers Club eventually.
And it won't change a thing in regard to plans for WDW. However, it serves an important function of providing a cathartic release for the fan base and keeping them from engaging in otherwise regrettable behaviors.

it will be interesting to see how it does internationally..tranformers does so well because of the international gross...star wars best international gross is 552 million...

Star Wars will do insanely well. The prequels, like 'em or not, attracted a whole new generation. After that, Clone Wars, which for many kids is more Star Wars than the movies, was a huge hit, and now with Rebels this year, and a movie next year. As the original fanbase has got older, new fans have grown to join them...

Episode 7 will do record numbers that make Avatar look like a disappointment, believe me.

I didn't read all 100 pages so I apologize if my comments are redundant ...

But I hate this idea ...

NOT because it's replacing Maelstrom.
NOT because it's Frozen.
NOT because it's World Showcase.

BUT to me the issue is clearly AGAIN Iger and Co. showing how completely inept they are, how out of touch, how little they truly understand ... because arguably the Magic Kingdom and World Showcase are the bottom two park areas on the list of parks that NEED attractions.

Future World has abandoned buildings and rotting attractions and DHS is a ghost town ... this could KILL DHS after this and Avatar at DAK come out ... what will happen to DHS?

Either way ... World Showcase did not need this ...

Additionally, I don't LOVE Frozen but clearly from a marketing perspective the franchise deserves more than a cheap, rushed (by Disney standards) overlay ... it deserves a land, an original attraction ...

Anyway ... way to think this through guys, brilliant.
they will just slap more frozen at DHS and call it a day ;)

Technology is moving so fast a park such as Epcot can not keep up with it. People walking into Epcot have more tecnology in their car, home and pocket many times than Epcot can expose them too. There is not as much "wow" factor as there once was for guest at Epcot.

The world is a much "smaller" place today than it was in the 1980s. Cable packages of 250 TV channels 24 hours per day and the internet (including social media) have seen to that. Exposure to world cultures is much more prevalent in society than in the 1980s.

I grew up in the 80s, I know what I was exposed too and I know what my kids have been exposed to in the 2000s. It not the same world in that sense. If Epcot was to try and act as if it were they would suffer for it.
"Can't keep up" or "won't try"? I think the latter is more likely.

On what basis can it be said that there is no "wow" factor for science and culture attractions in a theme park? Disney has the resources to make attractions that address these themes popular.

The internet is no substitute for themed spaces and tangible experiences. It just isn't. Since you're so convinced that it is, though, it is fruitless to keep going back and forth on that point.

You asked me the question, I just answered. If you don't want to talk about it any longer feel free to move on and stop replying to me or asking me questions.

Why is it when *Disney* (and I do mean only Disney, because no other company is constantly questioned or challenged on their "direction" or decision making, the way Disney is) - anyway, why is it when Disney makes a change -any change- there is this obsessive collective mindset that erupts into this faux outrage followed by attacking people who aren't as offended or simply open to embracing change?

I'm trying to understand how one consumer, who I assume frequents the parks, has the gall to attempt to label another consumer as "dumb" for expressing excitement about a specific change. It completely baffles me -- this is akin to labeling the person who prefers Ralph Lauren's take on fashion this season over Prada's as dumb. World showcase is like the Vegas Strip sans hotels and casino's to me. I don't see how people can people become so emotionally attached to such a thing? I don't think the majority of people can.

If I had to categorize and label one group of park goers as the official Disney apologists, sheeple, rose colored glass wearing koolaid drinking pixie dust sniffers or whatever derogatory name that's spitefully attached to Disney guests, it is the DVC owners. This group has committed to provide Disney with a substantial amount of cash upfront and possibly for decades whether Disney invests a dime in the parks or not - alleviating Disney from having to compete on the same platform as other theme parks, who must create new and innovative rides and attractions in order to remain competitive. For the record, I don't feel that way about DVC owners, but DVC's massive success has forever changed Disney from an amusement park to a timeshare resort and I don't see any signs of that trend slowing down.

Back to Maelstrom, there was barely a line there before Frozen. I haven't ridden it years, but I will after it reopens. I still think the Captain EO area or somewhere in Future World would have been perfect for a Frozenland, but whatever.

In short, all I am saying is if you have been to Disney since the grand opening of Expedition Everest, you may want to take a good look in the mirror before attempting to identify certain guests as "dummies." You cannot blame other guests for Disney's decisions, especially when you visit the parks yourself. I'm not knocking anyone who is disappointed - we all have our *thing*, but it is simply illogical to blame other guests for the decisions that Disney makes without assuming some of that blame yourself.

Geez that's even worse...
Really? Captain EO is awful - it just is. You're the only person I've encountered, who condones the continued presence of Captain EO in Epcot. And, while not all that original, you do get points for being "different." :D Perhaps it was okay back in day, I guess. And, I can forgive Disney for bringing it back after MJ passed, but it should have only been for a short duration, granting Disney plenty of time to create a suitable replacement.

I couldn't believe Disney made Captain EO a permanent fixture. This move alone demonstrates that Disney World has been on a steady decline for quite some time. I just adore those fountains so those can stay, but really, the theater should be bulldozed and replaced something state of the art, especially with all of the water and glass features over there - Frozenland would have been a perfect fit, imo.

So...

A ground breaking 3D movie (granted, nearly 30 years old) starring one of the most prolific solo musicians of modern history who still holds cultural relevance years after his death, with effects done by one of the revolutionaries of visual effects in movies and directed by one of the strongest directors of all time...

Is bad?

EO is significantly better than HISTA.

However, I agree. This shouldn't last forever. Rather, it should have been a stop-gap to allow Disney to create something even better.

You have never frequented gamer or tech forums, have you...much less sports forums, it seems.
Haha, I just don't care enough.

But just in case you were wondering, Apple versus Samsung - I have both the iPhone 5S and Samsung Note 3 and I can't make it through the day without my note, it's indispensable to me. The iPhone while not bad, has not enhanced my life so I can take it or leave it. The iPhone 6, well the big one did catch my eye, but there is no stylus, so no. Samsung Note 4 looks just like the 3 so it's a no it that as well -- and even though Samsung's phones feel cheap with all the plastic, it's easy to forgive. Every one in my household has an iPad, the 4th gen cords are so cheap and a just nightmare. I have been to the Apple store so many times to replace them, it's such a disgrace that the Apple guys know me by name and they know when I'm approaching because they can "hear me" walking through the mall. My cheap Kindle has a cord that is so thick and well made, so I find this unforgivable. I am on #teamSamsung.

I am a Nintendo person, I've never looked into the other gaming platforms, because most of their IP's don't appeal to me. That said, Nintendo has been disappointing the past few years, I've noticed a drastic change with their business tactics as well. Mario Kart 8, now features a line Mercedes Benz's and I've never seen that kind of blatant marketing within a Nintendo game before - is Mario going to be sporting Nike in Smash Bros. next? Of course, the Mercedes cars are faster with more control than the other cars. Not to mention, the lack of really good titles and virtually non existent online gameplay, with the exception of a few titles. Still I'm on #teamNintendo [/off topic rant over]

Anyway back to your point, even in those other types of forums (tech, gamer, etc.) - Apple fans do not attack other Apple fans for liking and buying Apple's products. Only Disney fans hate every new thing Disney does and viciously attack other Disney fans who don't hate what Disney does along with them. And, I do find this to be a bit bizarre.

Microsoft fans do.

Gamers do.

Sports fans certainly do.

List goes on.

Okay, I stand corrected but it still doesn't make it right. We can all agree to disagree without labeling each other as being "dummies." I understand that some people are very angry with the changes, but ultimately the blame rests with Disney, not other guests. I don't know how anyone can expect to see any kind of change by criticizing what other people are free to enjoy. I know this is cliche' but speaking with your wallet works. It does.

This is the difference between Disney and Sea World. Sea World fans mean business and they sent a strong, damaging message to Sea World this year. But Disney fans, just attack each and blow hot air. Their idea of punishing Disney is spending a few days at Universal and only half a week at Disney this year, or going to Disneyland, or taking a Disney cruise, etc. While, Disney is laughing all the way to the bank.

I have mixed feelings about Frozen - I'm not thrilled about it, but I'm not mad about it either. Epcot needs more rides, so I am disappointed but only to an extent with Disney for not building a brand new attraction. And, I really can't remember how long it's been since Epcot has gotten a brand new ride, so it just seems par for the course. I'm hoping that I like the changes. :)

I still don't understand the need to exaggerate to make your points. Painting Disney as a victim is just... well, it's just... kind of funny.

There is no "faux" rage. If anyone paid attention to the thread it's clear the feelings, whatever they are, are real. And depending on the date you go, Maelstrom can have big lines. Not that it's a great ride, just that WS is limited with attractions. And EPCOT isn't getting a new ride. It's the same ride.

Why people are taking the "dumbing down" comment personal is pretty silly. It goes more to the dismissive condescending attitude towards WDW from the higher ups, decisions they don't make towards DLR, isn't aimed at anyone who likes the Frozen overlay. Though, they don't help when they paint Disney as victims, that they're scrutinized more than any other company or entity on earth -- If anything, you guys seem to have a major problem with what other guests think and can't let it go... that pun was unintentional, btw!

Change can be good. I'm open to change. When it's done right. Imagination! wasn't good change. M:S wasn't good change. Stitch over Alien Encounter wasn't good change... TT 2.0... that was good change. But you see how they fair with change. Frozen might actually be great, lightyears better than Maelstrom. It still doesn't fit WS.

Perhaps you should form an S-Corp, buy a bunch of Disney stock and force them to make Epcot what you want of it.
Im not that selfish. Its not about me, or any individual for that matter. There are so many people who should be able to enjoy and embrace the cultures of the world and learn from one another. Kinda what EPCOT was created to do.

Till then accept what they're doing.
Thank God there have been people throughout history that are cut from a better cloth than that type of thinking and have made the world a better place, Walt Disney included.

Since I'm not an insider or senior member of the forums like you keep spewing,
When did I say anything remotely related to that?

why does my opinion matter so much to you to keep pulling it up?
Its like seeing a goldfish flopping around on the ground. So confused, gasping for breathe in fear,.. it just needs a little help.

I think you are missing the point. The issue here isn't just what is being replaced, but how it is being replaced. If Eo were replaced tomorrow with a quality attraction that fit the imagination pavilion, most would be lining up for it. Very few (outside of some obsessive Jackson enthusiasts) would be upset. Putting Frozen into the Imagination pavilion on the other hand, would not fit the theme of the pavilion or the land in way shape or form making a change like that an abomination resulting in levels of outrage probably far exceeding what we have seen here.

People are upset about losing Maelstrom. That is true. But its more of a sadness and nostalgia for a quaint ride that felt like "old Epcot". The outrage is for how it is being replaced. Had Disney done a new "Norway" ride, I think most would be excited (outside of the obligatory arguments over too many video screens, poor animatronics, and style over substance debates that seem to happen no matter what)
