Disney's Hollywood Studios Photo Contest

Contest Description: Enter your photo in or of Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.

Have a question? Feel free to ask.
Don't have a photo to contribute? Wait until voting starts and vote for your favorite photo!

Official Contest Rules
The rules will be very similar as previous years.
Contests will run from Saturday-Friday 11:59pm PACIFIC TIME, submissions after this time will not be included. An individual thread will be created for each contest. My intention is to open new contests and post polls on Saturday mornings. I hope to be able to stick to that, pending any unforeseen circumstances.

1 submission per member, per contest. Once you post your picture, you cannot replace it. You cannot re-use the same entry in multiple contests even if used in a different year. Obviously I cannot remember every picture posted in a contest so try your best to remember if you have entered a picture.

Pictures can be taken with any type of camera (film or digital).

Pictures can not be altered in any way, except to adjust size or add your own personal watermark. This is a photography contest, not a photo-editing contest.

Please resize pictures to be no larger than 1024x768 OR 768X1024

Please do not attach the photo to your post. Upload it to your own personal site and link the photo. You are responsible to ensure the photo is viewable at all times (and not subject to bandwidth limitations).

Pictures can be taken at any time for any contest (if you visited in April of 2002, you can use those pictures for any contest that interests you).

Pictures must be taken by the member submitting the entry, and not by a family member or by a cast member (meaning you physically have to take the entry. CM’s are of course allowed to enter their own photos).

If 10 or less people participated, 1 poll will be posted, and it will be open for 7 days.
If more than 10 entries exist, the entries will be divided into similar-sized groups, and will be listed in the order that they were submitted.

No breaking of park rules or common etiquette to take your pictures. (No accessing restricted areas, no flash photography on attractions which do not allow it....stuff like that)

The overall subject of the contest is "Disney". Although some contests are specific to areas of Walt Disney World, anything "Disney related" can be taken for other contests, including, but not limited to, other Disney parks. For contests like the "Fantasyland photo contest", any Disney park's Fantasyland would be accepted. Some contests allow photos not taken on Disney property and this is noted in the topic description.

This includes saturation levels.
I dont even know what saturation levels means. I promise you I know nothing about photo editing. I am not that computer literate. I take photos with my canon powershot elph 300 hs. And I just pulled my camera out to be able to write what it is. Its the size of my palm. If you don't mind me asking what is it that looks likes its been edited?

I think what he is referring to is the colors in your pictures look unaturally vivid. I looked back at a few of your other entries and I've noticed it there too. My guess is that iit's a setting on your camera then if you're not editing it yourself.

Just checked the manual for that camera and found this:
  • Program AE Mode: The camera allows access to all menu options, including ISO, white balance and all scene modes, although the camera automatically selects the aperture and shutter speed. There are many additional modes that can be accessed under Program AE. Smart Shutter automatically snaps the shutter as soon as the camera detects a smile, two seconds after it detects a wink and two seconds after it detects a new face (to put the photographer in the picture). In Best Image Selection the camera takes five consecutive shots and selects the best one. Handheld Nightscene allows shooting at night without a tripod by combining several shots which reduce camera shake and noise. Color Accent enables the user to retain a single color and changes the rest of the picture to black and white. My Colors has settings for various color tones including vivid, neutral, sepia, black and white, positive film, lighter skin tone, darker skin tone, vivid blue, vivid red, vivid green and custom color, which allows the user to adjust contrast, sharpness and color saturation.

Vivid
Neutral

Sepia
Black and White

Positive Film

You might want to check that setting on your camera.

I,ll get my boyfriend to check it out. That sounds confusing to me. If its the camera then does that mean Im editing? I definitely don't want to change the settings to take dull pics. Oh well. I can take the pic out. This has just been a fun thing to do.

If the camera took it that way, I would guess that it's not considered editing. Just thought you might want more natural looking shots (?)

Once I put the pics on my ipad I can click edit and see all those options listed above to change the look of the pic. From the camera I know how to do black and white and that's about it. I'll still check it out tho. Thanks for the response.

No problem. I bought a new camera last winter and I'm still learning on it too. Good luck with it - looks like a cool camera!

It's not totally clear in the contest rules about not using scenery modes, etc...which will take it as a jpeg image, but it basically did in-camera photo editing to spit out an image that gave it some effect, such as making the colors more saturated.

So in your pic, the bushes, flowers and ToT look like the saturation and luminance levels were kicked up a bit, and that's why I think the sky looks totally blown-out. A straight-up picture in automatic mode should have made everything more subdued and you should see more details in the clouds/sky.

As far as the contests go, editing would be considered anything done to the photo between the camera and your entry. For example, my camera can take black and white photos. If I change my camera setting to black and white, take the photo and upload it directly to the website, that would not be editing. If I took the photo in color, opened it up in photoshop or any other editing program and changed it to black and white then uploaded it to the contest, that would be editing the photo. Anything done with a program (other than re-sizing which is allowed) is editing. The idea here is for the photo to be entered as it was originally taken.
