Trip Report UPDATE 11/2 "Anyone have change for $100?" It's all about the Bennys, baby! A Girls Cruise TR!

Hey everyone! Since we’ve been back from this trip for over 6 months now and I’ve taken another WDW trip and another cruise, I figured it was time to write this report! I’m not sure I have ever anticipated a trip to WDW more in my life than I anticipated this one! Was it because I was going to be going on my first Disney cruise (and first cruise EVER!!)? Is it because I would finally get to stay at my dream resort, the Polynesian? Was it because I was finally getting to meet all these awesome gals from WDWMagic in person for the first time? Well…. I’d like to think it was a combo of ALL of those things! :)

When I first read about the girls cruise, it was October 2011, almost a full 2 years before the cruise was planned. I did some creeping on the thread before I actually even thought about joining in. I was still sort of “new” to the boards and wasn’t sure I would “fit in” so to speak. The more I read about it, the more fun it sounded. I ran the idea past my mother and my sister to see if they would like to go and sure enough, they were in! We officially booked the first of January! We planned on staying 1 night pre-cruise and 3 nights post cruise so our trip would be Saturday Sept 7-Sunday Sept 15. We rented points for Bay Lake Tower after the cruise and had originally booked Wilderness Lodge for before the cruise. My sister and I decided to switch it up and change WL to the Polynesian because A – It’s my dream resort and B – We wanted to celebrate my Mom’s retirement. So we changed it without her knowing. We were originally going to hide the DME tags from her and tell her on DME since we knew that WL, Contemp, the Poly and GF all shared the same DME. We decided to tell her earlier though at her retirement party. She offered to pay us for her portion but we said no, it was our treat!

Anywho, though the cruise was still over a year and a half away when we booked, the time flew by. Over the course of that year and a half, we had many group chats and chatted in the cruise thread. As the cruise crept closer, I knew that I absolutely could not wait to meet this wonderful group of ladies! I knew it would be the BEST time! And was it ever!!

Saturday Sept 7, 2013 – It’s time! It’s time!!!

My alarm went off bright and early Saturday morning at 2:30am. I was already packed and ready to go so Mom picked us up at 3:30am and we were off! We were flying out of Manchester NH on Southwest. Even though Portland’s airport is literally a mile from our house, Manchester had a non-stop flight, with better flight times and was cheaper. So we made the hour and 20 minutes trek to NH. No biggie!

We arrive at MHT at 5am. We hauled our luggage out of the car (all 10 bags! Eek!!) and waited for the shuttle to the main terminal. The bus driver pulled up and opened the door. As we struggled to get our bags onto the bus, the driver just sat there. No offer to help us, nothing. I have flown out of MHT less than a year earlier and the driver then was super helpful. But not this guy!! Mom got in the bus and we handed all our bags up to her. It took us a few minutes to get everything on and all Mr. Bus Driver did was sit there. This trip was NOT off to a good start! That all changed though after we sat down and “Dude Looks Like a Lady” came on the radio. I immediately thought of Rock N Roller Coaster and the fun week that lay ahead of us and pushed Mr. Bus Driver to the back of my head. I immediately texted @plaz10 and told her. I knew she was awake and either at the airport or on her way and would totally understand my excitement for hearing this song! When we reached the terminal, we schlepped all our bags off and bid Mr. Bus Driver a snarky farewell.

We went into the terminal and the security line was pretty much non-existent. We grabbed some Dunks and waited for boarding.

The flight was uneventful and we landed 20 minutes early! Wooooo!! We arrived at DME, hopped on the bus and headed to WDW at 10:30 on the dot!

Typical DME selfie!!

We're heeeeereeeeee!!

We made a stop at WL first and a part of my heart was sad because we weren’t staying there. As we stopped at the Contemporary, I wondered if we should have just stuck with WL since we knew we liked it. What if we hated the Poly? What if Mom hated it? We knew she loved WL, maybe we shouldn’t have changed it! My mind was busy with these thoughts as we made our way from the Contemp to the Poly, but as we made that right turn, pulled up to the gate and I saw the sign reading Polynesian Resort, all my worries went away. I KNEW we had made the right choice!

We got off the bus and were greeted by the amazing waterfalls and lush greenery of the Poly’s entrance. A CM put lei’s on us and said “welcome home!”. Not going to lie, I teared up just a bit! Mom and Ashley both looked at me waiting for the waterworks but thankfully I had my sunglasses on (It’s kind of a running joke with us that I cry over everything so they always look to see if I’m crying over the smallest little thing! Meanies!!! Haha)

We were led into the lobby where we checked in. The CM was looking for our Magic Bands but I told him we got them already. We had wanted to request Tahiti but it was closed as the Poly was starting to begin it’s refurb! We thought we weren’t going to be able to swim in the volcano pool, but the closure of that was a couple days after we left, so we lucked out! We request Tuvalu instead and were given our request. When we had originally booked, we wanted a standard garden view but when I called, it wasn’t showing up anymore (it was online though) the CM told us she could give us a lagoon view though for just $14 more. Well, you don’t have to twist my arm for that! SOLD! And for only $14 more than a garden view.

We took the long way to Tuvalu so we could take in the grounds of the resort. So beautiful.

We were on the ground floor in Tuvalu room 1413. Mom and Ashley let me open the door and be the first one into the room. As I pushed open the door and walked in, taking in the newly refurbished beautiful room, I could feel the tears again. This time, I didn’t care. I burst into tears and said “I can’t believe we are actually staying here!” Some of you might think I am a little weird, crying because of a resort.. Even though it was only for one night, we were staying at the Polynesian! From my first visit in 2001, when I was just 18 and we saw the luau and I first fell in love with the resort, to the many subsequent trips to Kona Café and Ohana trip after trip, I hoped every time that we would someday be able to stay there! That someday we would be able to just walk back to our room after leaving the Grand Ceremonial House instead of going back to another room at another resort. The Polynesian is more than just a resort to me. It is paradise. It was a place I had my heart set on staying for so many years. A place that I would longingly look at from the monorail as we glided past on the Express beam. I would look down at people wandering the grounds, wondering which building they were staying in and thinking how lucky they were. And now we were the lucky ones! FINALLY!

I took some pictures of the room. I LOVED the size of it!

And I loved the bathroom. The only thing I didn’t like, and I believe @fractal mentioned this in his TR too, that the hook for the towel was on the other side of the wall, next to the toilet. Made it a little hard to reach the towel! Also I wasn’t a fan of the sink IN the bathroom, probably since we’re so used to the sink being outside the bathroom but it was only for one night so it wasn’t really an issue.

The closets were cool and we loved having the couch in the room. Ashley was the tough luck loser who had the couch that night while Mom and I each had the bed. Ahhhhh, lucky us! (I wouldn’t be laughing later on in the trip when I was climbing up and down from the pull down bed on the cruise though…. Meh.)

I had yet to look out at the view, so I pulled the curtains back and actually gasped when I saw the view. Slightly to the left was the wedding pavilion and the Grand Floridian. To the right was the boat dock and the Contemporary and straight ahead was Cinderella Castle. We couldn’t see TOO much of it but had Wishes been scheduled for that night, it would have been perfect. Unfortunately, it was Night of Joy and there were no fireworks. Booooo!! We had other plans anyway but had we not, it would have been awesome to watch Wishes from our patio! (Spoiler alert, we ended up NOT having plans later that night so it was very much a bummer that Wishes wasn’t happening!)

We were starving at that point and didn’t have plans until later that afternoon, so we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the GCH. It was time to try Captain Cook’s!!

There were a couple things I wanted to try but most importantly, I wanted to try the Poly chip! Jess ( @plaz10 ) and I had been discussing these beauties for a bit before the cruise. She was staying at Bay Lake Tower with Siobhan ( @Tiggerish ) that night but we made plans to meet up a bit later. I opted for the Aloha Pork Sandwich which came with Asian slaw on top and the Poly chips!

Ashley got the chicken sandwich and fries and I can’t remember what Mom got. The pork sandwich was delish!! And the Poly chips… Oh Mylanta! Were those delicious! I’m eating some Wasabi almonds right now but boy do I wish I were eating those chips instead! The chips were the first of MANY ridiculously good foods I was going to try over the course of the trip! Ashley like her chicken sandwich and Mom liked… whatever it was that she got!! Lol

I do that too when I see something delicious! XD(before stealing some with a fork)

Thanks for reading! The food was so good! I could go for some Garden Grill right now!! :)

Bummer about the Fastpasses...it's a good thing to know in case we do it! But right now I don't have any booked...I tried to book some just to meet Anna and Elsa but those are gone...LOL.

I hope you had one of the best sleeps in your dream resort even though it was loud/cold!!!! Love falling asleep in Disney!!!!! :)

I'm gonna start reading, so try to finish this one before your next trip. I skimmed ahead and your poolside pics were a nice example of the use of light and shadow......and girls in bikinis and booze.

We need time for things to happen.
More TR = more awesomeness.
Love the garden grill. That and ohana have been our two constants as far as ADRs are corncerned.

Loving the report so far. We'd love to stay at the Poly one day (maybe once the DVC conversion is done). Love Garden Grill. I can imagine the panic you felt when you couldn't find your phone. I thought I lost my wallet once when I was in line for Big Thunder and that was not a fun two minutes looking for it (found it safely stored in my camera bag). Looking forward to the rest.

I always sleep so well at Disney resorts! It's probably cause I'm so tired from hauling around the parks all day!! :)

Yeah, I wouldn't bother with Illuminations FPs. I was so mad. Then add that onto the FP dilema we had with Fantasmic FP in November and I definitely won't be wasting my FPs on parades or firework shows again!

I love the picture of Mickey! You were right about his ears

And GG is one of my favorite character dining locations

We had such great character interaction there! I loved it! Other places we've dined at before the characters seemed so rushed. I don't know if it's just cause we're usually 3 older ladies or what. GG was awesome though!

I'm gonna start reading, so try to finish this one before your next trip. I skimmed ahead and your poolside pics were a nice example of the use of light and shadow......and girls in bikinis and booze.

haha I can't promise I'll finish this before my next trip because I'm leaving on Saturday for Disneyland! But I don't have another trip planned until our cruise in September so I'll definitely have it finished before then!

I'm still learning how light and shadow and everything work on my camera (as well as in editing) A lot of it really is in the editing and making the colors more vibrant, etc.. It's a learning process for sure! :)

More TR = more awesomeness.

Ohana is our all time favorite! We've never had a bad meal there *knock on wood*!!! :)

Keep on posting ;) great report !!

Thank you! More will be posted today!

The Poly really is gorgeous and the ease of having the monorail right there is great, too. It saddes me a bit they are converting some of the buildings to DVC. I'm sure they will be nice once they're done, but I kind of wish they had just left the resort alone. They are cluttering the lagoon, with the new VGF and the Poly bungalows.. but I digress!

Yes, panic is definitely the word to use when I couldn't find my phone! Phone, wallet, credit card, camera... anything of extreme value and importance, I absolutely freak out when I think one thing is missing! It's happened multiple times with my camera lenses (fearing I had forgotten to put them back in my bag when I was done changing them) It's not fun!

Thanks for reading!! :)

Sunday September 8 - Embarkation Day!!

The alarm went off bright and early at 6:30am. I had showered the night before so I laid in bed a bit longer, soaking up as much time in the room as I could. After a little while, I got up and went out on the patio to take some photos.

The sun was just starting to come up over the lagoon.

Thanks for having us, room 1413!! :)

We left our stuff in the room since we were meeting the gals for breakfast and we didn't have far to go! We ran into @PartOfYourWorld, @LuvsTheMouse, @jesemeca and a couple more in the lobby before climbing the stairs to meet the rest of the group at Kona Cafe!

Once everyone got there, introductions and hugs all around! Kona hadn't even opened yet so we were all kind of milling around in front of the restaurant. Some had brought luggage so suitcases were lining the outside of the restaurant. CMs from Ohana were playing some music, so we danced!! (I stole some of these pictures from other ladies reports! I didn't take many at breakfast but @Disneyfalcon did!)

It was time for food so we all sat at two big tables. Everything on the menu always looks so good but I knew I was going with my favorite.. the pineapple macadamia pancakes!! Mmmmm!! So good!!

Ashley got what she ALWAYS gets. Every time we go out for breakfast food, she gets whatever 2 egg breakfast that's on the menu and today was no exception!

Mom got the Tonga Toast! I tried a bite and it was good!

Breakfast was fun. We were all chatty and excited to get on the ship!

After breakfast was done, we headed back to the room to get our luggage. We gathered all of our stuff, took one last look out the sliding door, one last look at the room and let the door close behind us. I was a little sad that we would not be going back to our room at the Poly for the rest of this trip. I cheered up though when I remember what adventures were waiting for us on the Dream!

We met in front of the fountain in the lobby and began hauling our gear out to the stretch hummer that was waiting for us! On the back of the hummer was a little trailer for all our stuff. Smart thinking!

Of course we had to pose in front of our sweet ride to the port!

We all piled in and we were off! It was an eventful ride to port. It was cool when we crested the hill and the Dream came into view for the first time. I was shocked at how large the ship was. I mean, obviously I knew it was large, hello! It's a cruise ship!! I was just surprised as photos just don't do her justice! The end of the ride was fun, which consisted of trying to find a liquor store that was open so we could purchase alcohol to bring on board. The first place we tried wasn't open so our swift limo driver made a veeeeeery wide right turn back onto the main road... so wide the front of the limo was all the way across the other side of the road. And I think there were 4 lanes if I remember correctly! So yeah.. it was a wide turn! lol

(Courtesy of Tammy)

We found a store that was open and paraded inside. We settled on getting a blue raz vodka and Mom got some watermelon vodka and we also got some mini champagnes. I love me some Mimosa's and with POG juice onboard the ship, I knew I'd be mixing those two and creating my own Disney Dream Mimosa's! We had also ordered a bottle of our favorite champagne, Fairy Tale Cuvee to be delivered to our room along with a small box of chocolates for Mom to say congrats on her retirement.

After our purchases, we piled back into the limo and soon we arrived at port. We all got out of the limo, grabbed our carry ons and our bags were taken away. We would see them later outside our stateroom.

We were ready to get on that ship!!! :)

Oh wow! Okay. Where are you finding the time to do this reporting, woman?! Shouldn't you be packing???? No wait! Shouldn't I be packing?!?!

Love love loving it! So fun to relive from another perspective. Again.

No clue why they wanted us to dance before they opened over there in front of Ohana. I thought that was weird when they asked but I was already in my "what the hell...why not?" state of mind. LOL! So I clapped and semi-danced. Whatever. LOL!

That stretch hummer was a trip. Glad we did it. Definitely memorable stuff.

Wow my color is good in that last pic! Crap. Reminds me. I should be off to the tanning bed this evening. More to do before the weekend. And California!!!! See ya there!!!!! WooHOOOOO!!!!!

I have started packing!!! I'm house sitting tonight and there isn't much else to do but edit photos and watch The Voice!

They must have thought we looked like a fun, dancing crew?! IDK lol it was fun!

I'm hopefully going to get my airbrush tan done on Thursday. A friend of ours who owns a tanning salon got a new airbrush tanning system so she said she would let me try it out for free. Well, you don't gotta twist my arm for a free tan! Woooo!! 4 days!!! :)

Yay! On to the cruise part of the trip report! I can hardly wait!

This is the part I'm most excited to write!!! I hope I don't slack off after the cruise portion is over! lol

We got through security quick and easy and soon we were on the escalator on our way up to check in! Since we hadn't cruised before, we went in a different line than others. Both lines moved pretty quickly though. They had not started boarding yet. We were boarding group 5. YAY!!

They called out the groups quickly and soon our group was called. We stopped to get our family picture taken before continuing on up to the ship. I was anticipating that first step onto the ship so much! When it was our turn, the woman who announces each family as they board saw our shirts and said "oh you're more WDWMagic ladies!" and that's how she announced us! :) We stepped onto the ship and I was in awe. The atrium was BEAUTIFUL. The chandelier was breathtaking. My eyes started watering (of course!) as I took in the sights and sounds around me. We were FINALLY on the ship! I didn't take any pictures though because I didn't want my first view of the ship to be behind the lens of a camera. But don't worry.. there will be PLENTY of atrium pics to come! :)

We had made plans to meet at Enchated Garden for lunch but we ran into tammy who told us it was not open yet so everyone headed to Cabana's. We took the elevator up to deck 11. I was a little nervous at first about navigating the ship but we caught on pretty quickly. By the end of the cruise, we were pros! ;)

We found all the other girls in Cabana's and went and got some food. I was too excited to really eat much. The mashed potatoes though..... so good!

After lunch, we still had some time until our staterooms were ready. Some girls went and looked at the kids clubs. Mom, Ashley and I decided to just wander around and check things out.

We stopped at the restroom right outside Remy / Palo. Oh mylanta! These restrooms were so pretty!

Mirror shot!!

I took this picture of Remy from Ratatouille for Ashley. She loves this movie! I took this actually while she was trying to get out of the bathroom. Somehow she had locked the door and couldn't open it. Another lady was in there with her and she was pulling and pushing and it wouldn't open. I couldn't stop laughing. She got mad at me for that. HA!

We wandered up front by the adult only area. We spotted some chairs so we decided to sit down and get a drink from Currents. I can't remember what the drink of the day was but I think it was a Bahama Mama.

Yay cruise portion!!!! :) So I realize with all these pictures I need to do something with my straps there don't worry I will be fixing that this trip...so not looking fashionable there on that cruise! LOL.

I love all those bathrooms on that ship! The only downside to reading cruise reports...makes you want to go on one right now!! Wish I had a cruise inbetween now and next June...I'm not sure if I can wait 400+ days to go on the Magic! :(

Your sunrise photos from your room are goregous btw! :)
