Yeah my buzz-fed generation has come of age deep into this geek/fandom culture, where memorization of facts and idolization of people is often valued more highly than grasping a concept. When I was in school (at a good state university) for Marketing, I had to summarize the reading for other students because they outright refused to read anything outside of bullet points. That's what public school creates now though, where I would actually get in trouble for reading ahead and doing more research. Understand just enough to answer the question. So of course all it takes to get these kids excited is a headline saying something is "cool".

On the other end though, there is a certain expectation of quality for Y/Z once it has been laid out for them. Even lots of teens won't touch fast food. Perhaps if they showed them what it is in the parks, they would start demanding it. Though that could be dangerous for operations!

Why would expanding the parks fail to impress Wall Street? As far as I'm concerned the parks are a big money maker for Disney.
Also I looked up the budget of the new Pirates movie on Wikipedia, and it is supposedly around 350 million. That's a lot of money. Do they have budget cuts for films just like they do for theme parks? I never understood why Disney would cut costs in the first place, even 25 years after DLP opened. If it's really a burden, can't they just sell the park? That, and Hong Kong, and parts of Shanghai? Because If they sold the international parks, they can focus on domestic park spending and not have to worry about cutting costs.
It's like Disney failing to expand Pixar, and we all know what happened between them and Eisner.

Expanding the parks costs money. Currenlty TWDC is funneling cash directly to wall st in the form of share buybacks. Building takes away money from buybacks. If you ask a wall street weenie would you like 300 million today or a billion in 5 years they will take the 300 million today.

Wall st has become a casino and the job of capital formation has largely passed to the venture capitalists. Who would prefer the billion in 5 years thank you very much

Yet, I absolutely stand by the opinion that I have had since Day 1 on this site that DVC has had a terrible effect on the quality of a stay at a WDW Deluxe resort.

Wow, that's crazy. Do you happen to know how they defined the percentage (i.e. percent of revenue, percent of rooms, square footage...)? I'm just curious what the actual metric is, but in any case that is a startling number.

Wow that's some creative accounting right there considering DVC converted ONE longhouse out of all of them but this tells me that 86% of the expenses will be assigned to Poly members even though DVC has perhaps 15% of the total rooms.


I hope this is not the case otherwise it kind of confirms my long time suspicions that a disproportionate share of resort expenses are being assigned to the DVC membership.

If so DVC members SHOULD consider a suit as discovery would finally give DVC members an idea of what they are REALLY paying for vs what Disney states they are paying for.

I keep saying this, but it does bear constant repeating: if you only started visiting WDW in the 21st century or even the late 90s, then you absolutely don't know and are unqualified (no matter how many times you've been since 2004) to speak about Disney quality because you've, frankly, never experienced it in the swamps. I don't care if that sounds arrogant or condescending. It's a fact. The way WDW was operated and the product provided from 1971 until 199? has almost nothing in common with what you either love or have become addicted to. It can still be a nice product and an enjoyable place to visit, but it is not what it once was and it is sad that you'll never know what you'll never know.

Parents went several times without us in late 80's and early 90's when the company my dad worked for had their annual meeting at I believe The Contemporary.

One thing they brought back was how amazing the quality of food was, across all areas of dining at Walt Disney World.

I've suspected that the books were cooked for a while this is kind of the first confirmation. I hope this is an error otherwise DVC members are being screwed big time

I just got done lessening to the latest Disney Dish podcast today for WDW and they brought up how Rivers Of Light is doing with guests. I will let flyerjab's comment express the situation.

So I listened to @lentesta 's Disney Dish podcast today. On the show it was stated that the RoL show will run until the end of 2020, and that a new show with Disney characters (think live action Lion King) will debut in 2021 in time for the 50th. They reported that the show is doing poorly with preschool aged children, a key demographic for the company.

Maybe because it is boring for kiddies? They are used to a few minutes of "entertainment" followed by a break. This is 15 solid of images and music with no real direction as to what is happening. No wonder it polls poorly with the princesses, it was not designed for them.

Glad they cut it down from 22 - that would bring the kids to tears.
