Still can't decide if I want to work at Disney

I would love to participate in creating the next illuminations, designing ride scenery, making music for a show, restoring attractions and features in the park or building a parade. This is where a cast member might be able to help me. I don't want to leave my family but then the Disney parks are one of the biggest things in my life that I live for. Are there positions like that where I only work for Disney on certain projects?

The types of Imagineering related jobs you mentioned are some of the most coveted and aren't just externally hired. When they look for people to fill those roles the usually find the person as opposed to the person finding them.

I'm not ripping you in the slightest, this is merely a curiosity question...

But why in 1 paragraph do you sing the praises of the comany, and in your signature say you hate Corporate Disney? Yet you are considering leaving family to work...............For Corporate Disney

Every company has something to complain about. I don't like corporate Disney because of they're cutbacks anddownscales but I think everyone has said "I live my job but I hate my boss" at least once in they're lives. I want to design attractions or restore great ones. Hopefully design some projects. Who cares of there are some ruthless clowns in office. If putting up with them is what I have to do do be a part of the experience at my most favorite place in the world I will do it.

But you know these so called clowns would be your boss? They're the ones controlling those attractions you want to design.

Not to be a downer, but unless your resume shows that you are the best in that field and then somehow you're able to get Disney Professional Casting to review it, you're chances of even getting an interview are very low.

You won't really work on certain projects unless Disney recruits you as a specialist for something. If you are an Imagineer you would probably work on everything. There are probably different sections of Imagineers but it seems every time you hear something out of WDI it is from the same core group of people.

One place to start is inside the company. Just think Tony Baxter head of WDI for Disneyland got his start as just a regular park worker and made sure he got his stuff into the right people's hands.

Like others have said not many people make it by finding the opening but instead Disney finds them.

I want to do the same kind of things. My dream job is either to be a lighting design for a Disney theatricals production or work in theming restaurants and attractions. I already am putting together an extensive portfolio and am trying to work my way through the profession internships (starting with the college program) to see where I go. I know it is a pretty sought after position but hey hopefully I shoot for the top and if I don't get it I at least get my name out there for other potential positions.

Mike I said changing light bulbs on a light parade or servicing the attraction would be good enough for me. I don't know how things work but I would sure take pride in anything I fix and if possible never leave anything broken like some people do. But then maybe it's not they're fault.

Sounds like you should start with getting some job experience to start..


Disney hires people to do a specific type of job, not just be an imagineer.
